yong & i’s fifth anniversary is in two weeks. a few weeks ago we started going back and forth about gifts. we’ve never been the types to care about when we gift each other anything, dates are truly meaningless. so last week i surprised him with a nike fuel band. this week i received the beauties you see above. i’m slightly obsessed with them. the can’t stop staring type of obsessed. i’ve been searching high and low for an exposed metal heel. my favorite shoes can always easily double as a weapon. *swoon*

Birthday Girl.

( By: paola | 10-11-2011 | Dressing Up As | Comment? )

Hadn’t really thought about celebrating my birthday this year. No particular reason, just didn’t know what I’d do besides enjoying a nice dinner with Yong. The idea of dancing the night away was suggested last night and before I knew it I was inviting folks to one of our favorite lounges in Santa Monica.

I’ll probably put something similar to this together, maybe exactly this. Fun and comfy. Yong surprised me with the shoes yesterday (!!), after I raved about them when I saw this post from Delmy. I’ve been on a shoe buying strike because I’ve been saving up for a special gift for myself. Can we say “awesome boyfriend”? Yes, yes we can.

[ Just In ] La Chaqueta.

( By: paola | 07-10-2011 | Just In | 2 Comments )

Fit is great, buttery soft, amazing quality. Very happy with this purchase. If I count the day I ordered (and I do) it took a total of 5 business days to arrive. One day past the 2-4 days they promised. However, they never promised to ship same day so I’ll deal and you will too. =)

[ Wardrobe ] Los Angeles Rain

You know what else cold weather means? More cuddling! I digress.

This morning was hell bent on making today the worst day ever though. Woke up over an hour late (damn you cuddling!), walked into my mom’s room and discovered the leaky rain gutter was creating a funnel of water pouring directly into the newly installed A/C vents and a large pool of water had accumulated. Yong quickly ran outside with a trash bag for a quickie fix. As if that weren’t enough, Los Angeles traffic in the rain. When it comes to weather extremes… this is about it for us. Everyone’s foot is basically stuck on the brake pedal the entire time.

I ordered my bubble umbrella just in time. Bring it, Mother Nature.

[ The List ] Moto(rcycle) Jacket

( By: paola | 30-09-2011 | The List | 2 Comments )

I ended up filling up (at least) six trash bags. Donated anything that was in okay, or better, shape. Trashed the rest. I’ve been doing my best, since then, to only make smart purchases. For example, I’ve always had the habit of buying items I wasn’t totally in love with after trying them on. I’ve come to realize that if I don’t love it in the dressing room, I won’t love it at home. (Sidenote: I used to HATE trying clothes on and that’s a habit I’ve had to let go of as well. Saves a lot of money when you suck at returning things like I do) Or because it was such a great deal I couldn’t pass it up. At the end of the day though, if you never wear it, it really wasn’t a great deal.

So, I made a list to help me stay on track. A few years ago I discovered how much my productivity improved from making lists. So simple, yet so effective. I try not to add on to the list too often and stick to it as much as possible. The list includes clothing, shoes and accessories. My staples, if you will. Key items like outerwear and shoes I plan on investing in for quality. But I don’t believe style is, or should be, expensive so there’s a whole lot of high/low going on.

Today’s purchase is definitely a high (at least for me).

Zara’s Leather Zips Jacket (purchase here). If link expires look for it under Blazers > Collection.

Pretty much fell in love with it after seeing it on LA. Hope I can rock it half as well as she does. Don’t click on the link unless you plan on spending 4 hours going through her outfit posts and drooling a bit. Effortless style, love it.

[heading size="4"]Shipping[/heading]

This is my first time purchasing from Zara online since the option debuted for the States earlier this month. According to them, shipping (the free option) should only take 2-4 business days. If they can stick to that timeline I’ll be a happy camper. In terms of shopping with European companies, Asos shipping is pretty fast (arrives in about a week) and includes tracking and in my experience Topshop is the slowest with zero tracking information for US customers. We’ll see how H&M does when they open shop later this year.

Pssst, I’ve imported all my SOP posts to this blog for easier searching, yay!
