light ’em up: part two.

You’d think I’d be more motivated to pick up around here before I take pictures but you’d be wrong.

In this episode, we attack not one, but two boobs. They went down without a fight. You’ll notice a trend happening here with the globes taking their place. I’m going to be completely honest and admit that it wasn’t intentional. I’m just attracted to giant glowing orbs apparently. But I’m not going to fight it going forward. I’m predictable in my black, brass and round lighting affliction.

There’s probably dead bugs in there, tbh.

This particular boob hung over our little office area, which is shared by our living room. The dining room we have now was an addition to the home made in the 70s or 80s. Which means the area we use for our desks was intended to be a dining area and this fixture meant to light up our dinners. It’s also technically the only overheard light for the entire living/office area. I wanted something simple and clean to replace it. Nothing too flashy because the TV wall is the main event in this room and not too low hanging because we walk under it quite a bit.

This West Elm flushmount was another fixture I’ve had for a while. I got it in the “bronze” finish but if I’m being honest the color could better be described as gunmetal gray. So I asked the husbae to spray paint the canopy with flat black spray paint. Much better.

Then we moved on to the fabulous laundry area. The dining room sits to the right of this photo (below). Like I mentioned earlier, the dining room was an addition which means that this laundry nook would have been right next to the back door. One day I’ll have a whole laundry room (I dream about it) but I also grew up having to go to a laundromat with mom and eventually we upgraded to just a washer that we had to use in the backyard under a shady looking structure my uncle built. So this area is an upgrade.

Those paint chips have been hanging on the cabinets for about two years as well. The cabs are made of decent grade plywood. Nothing worth saving as far as I’m concerned. I want to add trim to the doors to add interest and then paint them a smoky blue. If I could figure out how to buy paint without going inside a store right now I would have done it already. There must be a way.

I’m going to admit though, I don’t know about this one. The fixture is great. But it might be in the wrong place. I think there’s something about seeing it in connection with the new dining room light. You can see both when you’re standing in the kitchen and I’m not sure it’s a good combo right now. Going to give it some time. We have a lot of other lights to replace and this one could just find another home.

  1. What a sexy orb for laundry. The paint could make a huge difference. When you say the the light could find another home… you still mean in your house right? lol. It’s so dope, I hope it’s somewhere in there if the laundry doesn’t pan out.

    • Lol yes, still in the house. I’m thinking it might work better in the 3rd bedroom that we turned into a closet. The more I live with it the more I feel like it’s just not right in this space.
