a room of doors.

I remember seeing Sarah’s color-blocked hallway for the first time and gasping. She inspired our master bedroom paint job (which sadly is no more, more on that later). She has a great eye and hand for finishing details. I’d only come across after pictures of the hallway on Pinterest and figured she started off with great bones and added her touch on top of it. Now that I’ve seen the before’s though, my level of respect for her and her husband is through the roof.

It’s even more inspiring because we, too, have a similar hallway… also known as a “room of doors.” Ours has 8 doors in about 60 square feet. Giving us access to 3 bedrooms, a bathroom, the living room, two storage closets, and a furnace closet. We haven’t refinished our 65-year-old floors and are waiting until we’re ready for that to remove the vinyl flooring that was glued on top of them at some point and covers the hallway and bathroom. But we can still make the rest of this work.

Things we’re planning on tackling at some point:

  • Flooring
  • Update lighting
  • Replace the doors (with solid core doors for sound dampening)
  • Update all hardware to match
  • Hang art (maybe)
  • Remove popcorn ceiling (maybe)

Yesterday we swapped out another boob light and I’m a very happy girl. Small incremental changes can be so satisfying. I think I’ll tackle the hardware next and shed another tear.

our hallway: in progress

An unexpected bonus of swapping out this light is how much “cleaner” this area looks. You can’t tell from the pictures but the space feels a little bit bigger and clearer somehow.
